Tasting Notes

Tasting notes As the wine ages it softens and slowly sheds its deep dark colour, gaining in structure and complexity. As Vintage Port throws a natural "crust or sediment in the bottle, it should be stood upright for 24 hours and decanted carefully before serving. Superb colour, full body and very fine aroma (mint) and flavour. Perfect to drink with cow-cheeses or soft Portuguese sheep-cheeses, ice-cream or as a digestive. Needs to be decanted.

About the Wine

GRAPE VARIETIES Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão

VINIFICATION Harvest begins towards the middle of September each year as pickers work the terraces to harvest the fully ripened grapes. The wine matures in casks or in larger wooden vats. The cool ambient temperature of the cellars and its location near the coast is perfect for the lengthy maturation of Port.

Port from a single exceptional harvest may be declared as a "Vintage". Bottled after spending between two to three years in wood, the wine continues to mature in the bottle until it is ready to drink. In some cases, this may take two decades or more.

About the Winery
